Awards Criteria for CBC 2009

Nominations for these awards are invited from individuals involved in any aspect of the Christian book and music industry, and the following criteria should be observed.  Please note that there is an 18 month 'window' which product being nominated must have been published within.

The publication time window for CBC 2009 Awards is:
1st July 2007 - 31st December 2008

Book Awards

including Book of the Year, Reference Book of the Year, and Children's Book of the Year

Significance. The books selected will have made a significant impact on the understanding of the Christian faith, either for those committed to faith or those seeking a spiritual view of life.
Excellence. They will be judged on literary excellence and creative writing. Consideration will be given to the use of a fresh approach, leading to a broader understanding.
Impact. They will be judged to have made an impact on the retail trade, but will not necessarily be a ‘bestseller’. 
Academic Contribution. The Reference Book category will additionally take into account the academic excellence and credibility of the work. 
Children’s Book. The Children’s category will consider presentation and attractiveness to children, appropriate to the age range for which they are intended.

Music Awards

including Contemporary Album and Praise & Worship Album of the Year

Musical Standard. The nominated award should display an innovative and skilful musicianship which is stimulating, interesting, and appropriate to the lyrics.  
Encourages personal faith. The nomination should encourage a deeper understanding of faith and enlarges the popular expression of Christian truth.
Production Quality. The nomination should demonstrate an unobtrusive and well-balanced production that allows instruments and voices to sound natural and clear. Free from technical flaws.
Sales. The album should be supported by popular purchase and appreciation.

Media Product Award

Description.  The Media Award is given to an item of non-book product, ie DVD, software etc, not eligible for any other exisiting CBC award.
Standard.  Consideration will be given to the standard of production, with clear sound (where appropriate) and free from technical flaws.
Significance.  Consideration will be given to the use of a fresh approach, leading to a broader understanding of the Christian faith, either for those committed to faith or those seeking a spiritual view of life.
Impact.  The media item will be judged to have made an impact on the Christian retail trade, but will not necessarily be a 'bestseller'.

Retailer of the Year (Large & Small)

Nominations for these awards are invited from individuals involved in any aspect of Christian retail, from owners and managers to customers.  An award is made in 2 categories: - Large and Small Retailer of the Year, and is based on the following criteria:-

(Division between Small and Large is turnover, the break point being £225,000.)

Organisation and control of business activities
Originality and creativity in presentation and marketing activity
Turnover growth
Ministry impact
Customer care
Community involvement
Stock turn
Staff development
